<p>Students will:</p>
<p>1. Solve inequalities using multiplication and division.</p>
<p>2. Graph the solutions to inequalities.</p>

<p><strong>Individual Activity: (10 min.) </strong>Solve the following inequality: -3x + 6 &gt; 9. When you think you have finished, look at your answer. Is it true? If not, what could you do to make it true?</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Direct Instruction: (15 min.)</strong> We will review the students&#8217; answers. I will then review multi-step inequalities and their graphs, showing connections between math and real-life situations.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Guided Practice and Direct Instruction: (30 min.) </strong>Students will solve and graph a series of inequalities on their own on chalkboard number lines while I check their work to monitor for understanding, troubleshooting at the board with the whole group where necessary.</p>

<p><strong>Direct Instruction: (15 min.) </strong>I will show students how to handle inequalities with infinitely many solutions and no solutions.</p>

<p><strong>Guided Practice: (15 min.) </strong>Students will solve inequalities with special solutions and single-integer solutions on their own, using chalkboard number lines, while I check their work to monitor for understanding, troubleshooting at the board with the whole group where necessary.</p>

<p><strong>Pre-dismissal: (5 min.) </strong>Put away materials, review objectives, assign homework (problems 1-5, 10-12, 18-20, 13-14, 43-44 on pages 202-205), and deal with any discipline issues that may have arisen during class.</p>

<p>Practice solving literal equations.</p>

<p><strong>Individual Activity: </strong>Students will begin the buildup exercise while I take attendance. (10 min.)</p>

<p><strong>Direct Instruction and Guided Practice: </strong>Students will do each problem in the buildup exercise while I monitor for understanding. They will write their answers on a small whiteboard; if anyone is confused, we will stop and work the problem together at the board, isolating students&#8217; errors and identifying potential pitfalls with each new step, until we have completed all ten problems. If the students do not finish the exercise during class, they will take it home to finish. (75 min.)</p>

<p>How do media impact our perceptions of other countries and cultures?</p>
<p><strong>PASS Objectives:</strong></p>
<p>I.3.2.c: Analyze characters&#8217; traits by what the characters say about themselves in narration, dialogue, and soliloquy.</p>
<p>I.3.1.a: Analyze the characteristics of genres including sort story, novel, drama, narrative and lyric poetry, and essay.</p>
<p><strong>Behavioral Objectives:</strong></p>
<p>Students will:</p>
<p>1. Understand narrative structure.</p>
<p>2. Begin writing a five-paragraph essay about a childhood memory.</p>
<p><strong>Large Group Activity/Direct Instruction (30 min.): </strong>We will watch the flagpole scene from <em>A Christmas Story</em>. I will then explain narrative structure as the students discuss how the scene fits into standard narrative structure.</p>
<p><strong>Independent Activity (50 min.): </strong>Students will use a provided form to create the outline for a five-paragraph essay about a childhood memory. Those who finish early may begin writing the first draft; those who do not may take it for homework.</p>

<p><strong>Closer (5 min.): </strong>Housekeeping and review of day’s objectives.</p>
