Direct Instruction: (15 min.) We will review the students’ answers. I will then review multi-step inequalities and their graphs, showing connections between math and real-life situations.

Guided Practice and Direct Instruction: (30 min.) Students will solve and graph a series of inequalities on their own on chalkboard number lines while I check their work to monitor for understanding, troubleshooting at the board with the whole group where necessary.

Direct Instruction: (15 min.) I will show students how to handle inequalities with infinitely many solutions and no solutions.

Guided Practice: (15 min.) Students will solve inequalities with special solutions and single-integer solutions on their own, using chalkboard number lines, while I check their work to monitor for understanding, troubleshooting at the board with the whole group where necessary.

Pre-dismissal: (5 min.) Put away materials, review objectives, assign homework (problems 1-5, 10-12, 18-20, 13-14, 43-44 on pages 202-205), and deal with any discipline issues that may have arisen during class.

They will write their answers on a small whiteboard; if anyone is confused, we will stop and work the problem together at the board, isolating students’ errors and identifying potential pitfalls with each new step, until we have completed all ten problems. If the students do not finish the exercise during class, they will take it home to finish. (75 min.)
